Using helmet cameras / action cameras for in-car accident recording

With some insurance companies now requiring cameras to record constantly whilst driving, especially in commercial vehicles it comes as no surprise that many action camera manufacturers are including this functionality in the firmware as standard to compete against the dedicated units.

I've had it a couple of times now with people trying to force me into the back of them (unsuccessfully thankfully) for fraudulent claims and certainly no end of people cutting me up in various different ways so I can see the advantage to this. So far I've been lucky and avoided any accidents from this sort of thing but if it did happen it would be nice to be able to prove what actually happened.

I'm intrigued if anyone's tried this and what's involved in mountings. I'd also be interested to know what different cameras have been used to accomplish this. I know there's the dedicated units such as the very popular BlackVue and RoadHawk but there do seem to be some cheap or more multi-functional alternatives on the market.
