Great free utility for Mac users

    So, for any Mac users a must have free utility for video conversion!!

    Check out MPEGStreamClip - a great little utility for converting pretty much anything to anything. The main function for this is to scale raw footage, rough cut the clips to make smaller files and most importantly an usefully it can convert between CODECS and filetypes.

    When editing it is always best practice to make sure all your footage is in the same format, ideally one that is native to your editing software. For example, when using Final Cut Pro, the ideal format is PRORES422 which is a Quicktime Codec. When using a GoPro HD which records in an mp4 format this software gives you a nice quick and easy way to convert it before starting work on it therefore making your editing faster and smoother.

    Just an update, this is also available for Windows as well. Huge heap of options in there but as yet I haven't tried it.

    If it's as good as the Mac version it's an essential install for anyone who wants to do any editing.
